In 2021, I ordered 3 boxes of these solar candles. The first 2 boxes fizzled in the summer heat & rain. The 3rd box has been going strong since August of 2021.I ordered 2 boxes this past spring 2022, no problems with the battery power or on & off switch. 2 candles finally stopped working, so I have a 3rd box to fill in candles.This past summer was hotter than last year. Very happy with how this year's candles are holding up.Original August 2021 reviewFor the past 3 months, I've ordered 1 box per month of these solar candles. As the month goes on, the battery becomes weaker and won't hold a charge. The weak battery symptom is what other buyers have described - constant fiddling with the on/off switch. The candle lights up and then fizzles out. I decided to order replacement batteries for the candles that stopped working.I used a small, flat head screwdriver to pry the bottom off. Inside the candle, there was a little circuit board for the solar panel, the On/Off switch and a triple-A, 1.2V, 300mAh rechargeable lithium battery. The candle would stay lit longer if the battery was replaced with a 600mAh battery.The problem is that the candle's wiring is soldered directly to the lithium battery. A cell phone or laptop lithium battery would have a tab for soldering. This is a inexpensive tea candle so there are no tabs.1) On/Off switch wires: the red "positive current" wire is soldered to the positive end of the battery. The blue "neutral" wire is soldered to the solar panel. The candle won't charge unless the switch is in the On position.2) Solar panel wire: The black "negative current" wire from the solar panel is soldered to the negative end of the battery.I'm pretty good with soldering components but this replacement would require a soldering gun with higher heat.A soldering iron could do the job but it would take longer to get enough heat to attach the wires. While doing this, the heat would weaken the lithium battery. There is a safety factor, too. I don't want to accidentally heat up a lithium battery and watch it explode.The solution? I removed the replacement batteries from my shopping cart and ordered another box of candles.It's safer and I like the color of the candle's led light.August 8, 2021 Update:In addition to the outdoor garden, we were using the solar candles in the kitchen & dining room windows. The candles were not charging and over 2 weeks, I swapped the candles every 3 days..Turns out that the windows are "low-E glass" which blocks UV rays and filters the heat that is normally transmitted through standard window glass.The tea lights with the lithium "button" batteries are not a good option, even with a 6 hour per night timer.The batteries would drain in about 14 days.Placed an order for rechargeable tea lights, which will be better for the windows.
